Anticapitalist Meeting for Climate and the End of Genocides in Rio de Janeiro

After a week in Belém and before the serious negotiations began at the COP30 climate summit, we moved to Rio de Janeiro to participate in the Anticapitalist Meeting for Climate and the End to Genocides, with several Brazilian groups deeply critical of the COP processes and the fossil capitalism that directs them.

The Meeting aimed to identify capitalism as the root cause of the climate crisis, denounce capitalist institutions, corporations, states, and international organisations and their false solutions (including those of the Brazilian state, including the Lula government), and contribute to the development of an appropriate program, tactics, and strategies.

There were debates on capitalist genocides (from Palestine to the favelas), various active popular movements for environmental justice, the relationship between capitalism and the climate crisis, the subtle denialism installed in the status quo, and an anti-capitalist program of the working class to halt ecological collapse. (We also intervened in this last discussion).

While at COP30 in Belém they were debating whether they even wanted to mention fossil fuels, the meeting ended with an anticapitalist climate march.
