Climáximo attended the European Common Space for Alternatives Conference from 26 to 28 April in Marseille, France. The event was attended by more than 300 people, dozens of organisations and hosted almost 100 sessions.
On the first day Climáximo organised one session, ‘Handbrake to Stop Climate Collapse’, which was attended by dozens of people. In addition, we co-organised with ATTAC France a debate on whether or not the movement should boycott the COP where we presented the Earth Social Conference and the need to continue the boycott of the institutions that are killing us and build our plans to stop the destruction.

Throughout the second day, we offered the ‘International Proposal for Strategy and Organisation’ session in the morning and actively participated in the 3 main plenaries of the conference, explaining that the climate crisis is not only linked to the different current conflicts but is also a war in itself, that we can no longer wait for the current governments to make the necessary changes as they have consciously made choices to kill us and discussing what the plans are for the movement. The rise of the far right, the struggle for the liberation of Palestine and demilitarisation were the most recurrent issues, and there were debates on popular ecology, the climate crisis, feminism and extractivism.
At the end of the third day, the conclusion is clear: in a few weeks’ time there will be the last European elections that can stop the climate collapse – with a mandate until 2029 – and expectations are that the parties elected will guarantee the collapse of civilisation. The question that remains is: what are we going to do?
For Climáximo it is clear that the next international moments must guarantee the construction of concrete plans for the movement that will make it possible to stop the climate crisis. This is the challenge we take as our responsibility.
