The Climáximo movement, the Greve Climática Estudantil, and the Fim ao Fóssil movement stand in solidarity with the crew of the Global Sumud Flotilla, victims of intimidation attacks last night by the Zionist navy, with the Palestinian people, and with the peoples around the world who resist the injustices and aggressions perpetrated by governments and corporations against them.
The various Flotilla missions – which attempt to break the blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza for 18 years – have been consecutively and violently attacked, as they represent acts of popular resistance in response to the inaction and complicity of successive Western governments and their vassals in the face of the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
Since its departure from various points in the Mediterranean in early September, the most recent flotilla, which includes 3 Portuguese crew members, has been the target of several drone attacks and other types of repression and psychological pressure, in an attempt to dissuade the crew from continuing with its mission.
This morning (October 1st), a Zionist military vessel attacked two ships of the fleet with intimidation manoeuvres, forcing the flotilla to make defensive manoeuvres to avoid collisions. The flotilla managed to continue towards Gaza, but is about to be intercepted.
Climáximo and GCE celebrate and stand in solidarity with all the people in resistance, and with all the crew members of the Global Sumud Flotilla, and with their commitment to reach Gaza in the face of all attacks and adversities, to break the genocidal siege and open a humanitarian corridor.
The two years of genocide of the Palestinian people by the Zionist government, the complicity of European governments and large companies, and the actions of various states to repress and criminalise those who take action for the liberation of Palestine and against the genocide leave no doubt: only the people can save the people.
The end of fossil fuels, halting the climate crisis, as well as the end of armed conflicts and genocides, is in the hands of the people and depends on building a popular movement of resistance and struggle for liberation, justice, and peace.
We appeal to the attention and mobilisation of all people in the face of the developments of the Global Sumud Flotilla, as well as the advances and attacks of the genocidal Zionist state against the Palestinian people. We call on everyone to mobilise to build resistance and struggle against this genocidal and ecocidal system in every corner.
We were present at the October 2nd rally at the Israeli embassy, and later also at the spontaneous demonstration with thousands of people that occupied and blocked the Marquês de Pombal roundabout and then disrupted the debate between the different parties for the Lisbon municipal elections.
We were also present as a bloc of the “Fim ao Fóssil” movement at the demonstration on October 4th, where thousands of people protested in the streets of downtown Lisbon, followed by an occupation and blockade of the Rossio train station for about an hour with hundreds of people.
