The ‘Eleven of April’ trial, initially scheduled for the 22nd, 23rd and 24th, had only one hearing on Monday morning.
Dozens of people walked through the April assemblies in solidarity.
The trial of the “Eleven of April”, the Climáximo supporters who blocked Avenida Eng. Duarte Pacheco in Lisbon in December 2023, had only one hearing on Monday morning, the 22nd.
After a tumultuous session in which the “climate crisis was outside the court”, the hearings were postponed one after the other due to the strike of court employees, with whom the collective declared its solidarity.
Outside, the “April assemblies” were attended by dozens of people in solidarity with the “Eleven of April”.
The program continued for three days, even with the postponement of the trial. It included solidarity concerts, debates, action meetings and material meetings.
In the action assembly on Monday, the different participants decided which measures of the disarmament plan they wanted to “emphasize” in a “great action of resistance against the war that has been declared against us”.
The demands chosen were “no more projects that increase greenhouse gas emissions”, “an end to all public investment in fossil fuels” and “income justice in the service of the climate – the 1% pay”.
by corporations and governments on society and the planet.
Maria Mesquita, one of the “Eleven of April”, said: “We will continue to resist and fight to stop this war that governments and corporations have declared against the people. We can’t wait for a dictator to end dictatorship, nor can we wait for governments and corporations to stop the climate crisis: it’s in the hands of all of us.”
As we wait for more news from the trial of the “Eleven of April”, let’s also continue to build the solidarity and support we need to face the repression of a system that defends itself while condemning us both in court and in the destruction of everything we love.
Climáximo closed the April assemblies at noon, on the eve of the anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, and like many other collectives and associations, called on people to go to Largo do Carmo in the evening to celebrate the “popular power” that “overthrew dictatorships and made April 25th possible, and now it’s our turn not to agree with this system and to build the popular power that can resist the war declared by corporations and governments against society and the planet.
